Dental exams are simple and easy and can save you a lot of trouble, pain, and money down the line. If it is time to schedule your next dental exam, Wanserski Dental Center for Complex Dentistry is here to help.

Why Do I Need Regular Exams if My Mouth Feels Fine?

Even if your mouth feels fine and you think that you do not have any issues, it is still always important to have regular dental exams. It could very well be possible that there is nothing wrong. And if everything is fine, that’s great! Your exam lets you know for certain that your mouth is healthy.

The problem with many oral health issues, however, is that they do not often exhibit symptoms in their earliest stages. You might think everything is fine, but there are issues developing that you cannot see and feel yet. With routine exams, we can help to detect these issues while they are still in the early stages, making treatment much easier.

Protect Your Teeth from Serious Issues

Cavities start as decay. Sometimes, you might not notice these areas of decay on your teeth. They might be where you cannot see them, or you do not see them. You do not feel any pain or any other symptoms of a cavity. But we can detect decay in its earliest stages, which means that we may even be able to help reverse it. If the decay has turned into a cavity, we can then provide you with a filling, which helps to restore your tooth. The sooner a cavity is found and treated, the smaller it typically is. Dealing with cavities early can help to protect the tooth from being severely damaged by decay, and the need for treatments like crowns or even extractions.

Gum Disease Detection

The early stage of gum disease is one of the most difficult to detect on your own. But not for us. We can spot the earliest warning signs, helping to provide you with a more involved cleaning that removed the irritation from your gums so that the tissue can heal properly. When caught in the first stage, we can help to reverse gum disease. If it is not detected until later, we may not be able to reverse it, but we can help you to manage it so that you can protect your gums, jawbone, and teeth from the more detrimental effects of later stages.

Oral Cancer Screenings Can Prevent Major Problems

During your dental exams, we also perform oral cancer screenings. An oral cancer screening is a quick, simple visual inspection of the tissues in your mouth. What we are looking for is anything abnormal, such as sores, discolored patches of tissue, or growths. Detecting oral cancer early on is essential for increases your chances of successful treatment and can even be lifesaving.

Routine dental exams are recommended at least every 6 months. If you notice symptoms of issues between these visits, it is also important to schedule an exam as soon as possible, rather than waiting until your next appointment.
