What are Porcelain Veneers and How Can They Help Me?
Porcelain veneers are a fantastic option for many of our patients who have concerns about the appearance of their teeth. Not only can they improve how they look, but they can also help strengthen and restore teeth that have been worn down, chipped, or uneven. Made up of a thin sheet of porcelain, veneers are affixed to the surface of your teeth using a special type of dental bonding cement.
Sometimes, despite following a good oral hygiene regimen, teeth can start to become yellowed or stained. Even though you brush and floss regularly and come in for routine dental checkups with a cleaning, these stains can persist. Dental veneers can effectively hide these stains by this porcelain sheet, giving you a brand-new smile. If your discoloration is due to the erosion of your dental enamel, or you find that your teeth are feeling weak or brittle, porcelain dental veneers can also be the best option for you.
Some of our patients may not be good candidates for invasive orthodontic treatments like braces, especially if the spaces between their teeth are mild in nature. Instead of spending a year or two trying to fix your gaps, you can instead have them improved with porcelain dental veneers. Because it is a solid sheet of porcelain, it can hide any evidence of unevenness or spaces between your teeth. Your teeth will be uniform, and your smile will be stunning once more!
How It Works
The process of getting dental veneers is fairly simple and straightforward. We will begin by thoroughly applying a local anesthetic to the site to prevent any discomfort from occurring, but this is on a case by case basis. Not everyone will need to be numbed up before we begin, but if you are especially sensitive, then we may decide to use a local anesthetic. We will then clean your teeth and prepare them for the veneer by shaping them down to ensure a perfect fit. (Please know that dental veneers are a permanent procedure and cannot be reversed due to this step.) We will take an impression, and once your veneer is ready, we will etch both your teeth and your veneer to make sure it fits perfectly. Lastly, we will bond it and cure it using a special type of light, giving you a beautiful new smile!
