What Are The Signs Your Dentures Need to be Replaced?

What Are The Signs Your Dentures Need to be Replaced?Custom made dentures, both full and partial, are very common and used to replace missing teeth effectively helping patients eat, speak and live normal lives.

While they are durable and will last a very long time if cared for properly, they will eventually need to be replaced. Here are some of the signs that you may need to consider replacing your dentures.

How Long Do Dentures Last?

When cared for properly at home, brushing them daily, storing them in water overnight and keeping them free from chips and breaks, your dentures can last up to ten years. While they may require some minor repairs or adjustments over the years, regular checkups in our office will help us make sure that your dentures are fitting properly and comfortably.

Over time, your mouth keeps changing. Your jawbone slowly shifts and changes which has a direct effect on the tissue and muscles of your face and gums. This changes how your dentures fit on your gums. You may notice that they are feeling loose or uncomfortable in your mouth. We ask that as soon as you notice these changes that you come in to see us. While it may just be an adjustment you are needing, it may be time to replace your dentures.

Broken teeth or bridges will require new dentures. At times, it is possible to repair a single broken tooth, but in some cases, your dentures may need to be replaced. Our staff will assess the dentures and decide if they need repaired or replaced. Do not attempt to repair broken dentures on your own at home. This can lead to serious oral health problems that can cause further complications later in life.

If you notice pain or discomfort with your dentures, please call us right away, we are here to help. Together we can ensure that your dentures last a very long time.
