Dr. Wanserski specializes in creating the most esthetically pleasing results when providing care. One way that we are able to obtain such results is that we have our own dental laboratory on site. Most dental offices need to work with a lab outside of their own facility. Having the lab in-house allows for constant communication with the technicians with regard to shade and other design techniques that are so critical in obtaining the final product. We use state of the art equipment and materials throughout the lab process. The office offers a number of treatment choices for replacement of teeth, replacement of fillings, and cosmetic concerns. |
CAST RESTORATIONS VERSUS AMALGAM
Dental amalgam (silver fillings) have been used for years to restore teeth. With the advent of newer stronger and more durable restorative materials, patients have a number of choices for restorations. In our office we offer amalgam as an option but prefer to do restorations in cast gold or porcelain when the treatment plan allows. A cast restoration is a custom fabricated filling. Unlike a silver filling which is “packed” into the preparation a cast restoration is custom fabricated to fit your tooth. An impression must be taken after the prep so that the dental laboratory can fabricate the filling. Patients often have the choice between porcelain or gold depending on the location of the filling. A cast restoration will have greater longevity compared to a silver filling. Silver fillings after time tend to corrode and pit at the margins and often need to be replaced due to recurrent decay. A cast restoration provides a better fit for the filling and the tooth, which will last much longer. Of course there are always things like diet and underlying health problems that can contribute to the success or failure of any dental treatment. |
